Hamster Trail 2018

No videos, just a few photos of a trip Dylan and I took with his friends Ryan and Leanne in 2018. We started off doing a nice, easy tour of the Hamster Trail in New Hampshire, starting from Ryan and Leanne’s place in Tamworth. After a few hours of cruising on the unpaved roads of the route we got a bit more ambitious and took off down an ATV trail that we stumbled across near Warren.

Unfortunately, the Tiger’s clutch gave up on a long, rocky hill climb and left me powerless on the side of a mountain. I was able to coast back down the trail and get a tow back to town from Leanne where we realized that none of us had signal.

After the generous use of a landline by a local rider and several hours of waiting in his front yard, I was eventually able to get picked up by a tow truck and taken to the closest Triumph dealer a long drive away in Concord. Eventually I’d find out that the clutch had grenaded itself due to a known fault that only occurred when the bike was pushed hard, for instance on a steep, rocky hill climb. Triumph paid for the parts, but I didn’t get the bike back to Connecticut until later December.

Between the clutch issue here and the close call with my ankle on the Nevada BDR, this trip ended up being my last serious off-road excursion on the Tiger. It’s a phenomenal sport-touring and long distance bike, but if I wanted to do any serious off-road riding I’d be better off on a proper dual sport.
